Engram (“the extension”) helps you clip the current webpage (or selected text) into a Markdown note saved to a folder you choose (for example, an Obsidian vault). This privacy policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.
Data the extension handles
Website content
- When you use the extension to clip a page or selection, the extension reads webpage content (such as article text, page title, URL, and selected text) from the page you are viewing.
-
The extension converts the content to Markdown and writes it into a
.mdfile in the folder you select.
Web history (current page only)
- The extension reads the URL and title of the active tab when you initiate clipping (via the popup, keyboard shortcut, or context menu).
-
The URL is included in the saved note (for example as a
sourcefield) so you can reference where the clip came from.
Extension settings and local state
The extension stores some data locally to function:
-
Settings (e.g., templates, default folder path, AI
toggle/settings) in
browser.storage.local. -
Pending clip state (e.g., selected text waiting to
be saved) in
browser.storage.local. - The folder handle you selected (so you don’t need to re-pick it every time) in local browser storage (IndexedDB).
AI (Gemini Nano) summaries
If you enable AI features and your browser supports it, the extension can generate a summary using Chrome’s built-in on-device Gemini Nano / Prompt API. The text you clip may be provided to the on-device model locally in your browser to generate a summary that can be included in your note.
The extension does not send your clipped content to an external AI service.
What the extension does NOT do
- The extension does not collect or transmit your data to the developer’s servers.
- The extension does not sell user data.
- The extension does not use your data for advertising, profiling, or analytics.
- The extension does not collect passwords, payment information, health information, or personal communications.
Data sharing
The extension does not share your data with third parties.
Note: The extension UI may load fonts from Google Fonts. If that happens, your browser may make a request to Google’s servers to download the font files, which may expose standard request metadata (such as your IP address) to that provider. This is unrelated to clipping and does not include your clipped page content.
Data retention
- Saved clips remain in the folder you chose until you delete them.
- Stored settings and local state remain in your browser until you clear extension/site data or uninstall the extension.
Security
The extension stores data locally in your browser and writes notes only to the folder you explicitly select.
Your choices and controls
- You can disable AI features in the extension settings.
- You can remove stored settings by clearing the extension’s storage.
- You can uninstall the extension at any time.
